In 1840 William Ainscough and his brother Richard left Liverpool, England on the passenger ship Brittania, landed in the New York harbor, and made their way to Nauvoo, Illinois. His life in England, Nauvoo, Cottonwood, and Smithfield will be discussed here.

- I have always been interested in family history. On a recent trip to Nauvoo Illinois in 2006, I discovered my immigrating ancestor, William Ainscough. My mother is Ardath Ainscough; her father was Elmer; his father was William Thomas Ainscough; and his father was William Ainscough, born 1818 in Eccleston, Lancashire England. In 2008 I wrote a history about William Ainscough's life in America. On this blog I would like to meet many of the William Ainscough descendants and find more information about William's life in Nauvoo, Cottonwood, Smithfield and his English roots.
